Considering concerns over social distancing and airborne transmission of the coronavirus, cross-country train travel seems like an even worse idea than getting on a plane right now, but sometimes you just have to move about the country. Americans’ general reluctance to travel is certainly impacting rail giant Amtrak, which has cut service and laid off 20 percent of its workforce amid the pandemic.
