In the early days of the pandemic, many companies made a show of extending special benefits and discounts to the “essential workers” who weren’t able to hunker down indoors and binge Netflix when states issued stay-at-home orders. Now, as states reopen, communications giant AT&T is extending generous discounts—up to 25 percent— on its wireless plans to teachers, nurses and physicians.
